Because sometimes you need to directly engage someone or ask a specific question without bombarding everyone on your team.

The idea of “@mentions” is a pretty straightforward concept these days. If you’ve ever used Twitter, Instagram or Slack, you know how it works. You start by typing “@” and then the person’s name and oftentimes a window appears to help you pick someone you might be looking for. When you select that person, they get a notification and they respond back to you. That’s exactly how it works in Cage.

Until recently, our customers had to find workarounds for how they were alerted of specific things in Cage. While we were impressed by these clever hacks, that’s no fun and isn’t the best use of their time. The “inbox fatigue” from being over subscribed for notifications was a real problem for our customers and “@mentions” was the answer to that. A simple solution for anyone who’s tired of missing conversations with an easy way to draw someone’s attention to high-priority discussions. Here are a few ways you can use “@mentions” in Cage:

📬 Messages

Whether you’re kicking off a project and want to outline roles/expectations and timelines, or you want to centralize all of the legal docs and scopes for that project, you can “@mention” the folks on your team that need to be looped in.

📝 Annotations on Files

From needing to ask a specific client or stakeholder for more clarity or details to kindly nudging a client to provide feedback while you’re waiting, you can use “@mentions” to help with context and engagement. Perfect for keeping the conversation flowing.

Tasks

There’s a simple communication layer on top of most features in Cage. So anywhere you might be able to leave a comment, you can use “@mentions”. From sharing progress with your team on the tasks you’re working on, to posting ideas to a discussion, to comments and feedback on files you’re approving.

As with all notifications, we’ve also made sure we’ve added some granular controls and overrides for what you’re notified regarding and how often you’re notified.

Enjoy this latest feature release and if you have any feedback, you can always reach our team directly in the product. There’s plenty more coming soon, too! Help us spread the word and connect with us on Twitter, Instagram, and Dribbble.
